I finally used up my Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum and was intrigued to try out The Body Shop "Youth Drops". The price point is much lower and the formulas are very different from each other. I thought I would do a first impression and then a full review, when I've used the product for a month or so.
First, let's take a look at what it claims to do (taken from The Body Shop UK website):
- Helps enhance surface skin condition
- Instantly moisturising
- 99% of ingredients are of natural origin
Packaging (see picture on the right):
- Common dropper as most serums
- Plastic Lid
- Green glass container
5 Main Ingredients:
Aqua/Water (Solvent/Diluent), Alcohol Denat. (Solvent/Diluent), Glycerin (Humectant), Chondrus Crispus Powder (Abrasive), Propanediol (Viscosity Modifier).
NOTE: The concentrate has alcohol as the second main ingredient after water. This may concern some people and I would recommend people with dry or sensitive skin, to test the product out on a small area on the hand first or so, to make sure it doesn't cause any irritation.
As you can see on the pictures on the right, this concentrate is really light-weight and the consistency, when blended out, is watery. I usually wait for about 20-30 seconds for my skin to absorb serums, but this product literally set within a few seconds! I know some people think it's tacky and sticky after application, but I disagree. The skin feels bouncy, hydrated and comfortable. As with all other concentrates and serums, I finish off by applying a moisturiser as well as lip balm.
I haven't noticed much difference in my skin other than it being more hydrated. On some days, using my Neutrogena Moisturiser (Check my morning routine here) doesn't suffice and I will still have some flaky skin around my nose. When using this concentrate before applying my light day moisturisers, my skin feels and looks hydrated throughout the whole day. Using matte foundations on top of this combination is no problem any more, as there are no dry spots for the foundation to cling to.
For hydration this product is lovely, but please check back in a month to read a full review on whether it lived up to it's so mentioned claims.
